Our friends, Chuckle Busters, will curate the best in stand-up comedy across both days, mixing stalwarts of the UK comedy circuit, budding breakthrough acts and local favourites handpicked from the vibrant Bristol comedy scene.

Fern Brady
 

 
Since 2010 Fern Brady has quickly established herself as one of the sharpest new acts on the comedy circuit, becoming a finalist in a number of high profile competitions including So You Think You’re Funny?, New Act of the Year and Piccadilly Comedy New Act of the Year. Fern has also appeared on 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Seann Walsh’s Late Night Comedy Spectacular and Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience. Prior to entering comedy Fern was an award-nominated journalist and still contributes opinion pieces to The Guardian online. She has also spoken about topical issues on Channel 4 News and Newsnight.

Jenny Collier
 


 

Jenny moved from the Welsh mountains to the Big Smoke in 2010 and has since embarked upon a career in stand up comedy. Highlight: Appearing on a BBC Radio Wales panel show with Jo Brand. Low point: After a gig, an audience member saying ‘You should be a stripper’ (Both secretly highlights).
 
She has written for BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, Huffington Post and Glamour Magazine and has traveled (parts of) the world with her comedy. She has performed in Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland and most recently in Australia where she won the Percy Award for most tickets sold in ‘The Imaginarium’, (over 1900 tickets) during the Adelaide Fringe.
 
In August 2016 she performed her debut hour at the Edinburgh Fringe, ‘Jen-Hur’ which received reviews such as ‘★★★★★ An Excellent comedic work’ – Edfest Mag and ‘★★★★ A brilliant show and well worth a watch’ – Arts Award Voice

Eshann Akbar
 

 
Since starting comedy in March 2014, Eshaan Akbar has established himself as an act with exciting potential.
 
A winner of the Piccadilly Comedy Club New Comedian of the Year 2016, Eshaan has been in the finals of other prestigious competitions, including So You Think You’re Funny 2014 and Laughing Horse 2014. He has performed across the UK and in Germany and Bangladesh. In 2016, he supported Dane Baptiste on his UK tour.
 
His professional career has taken him from private banking through to corporate communications via a career in local government public policy. He has previously written for The Guardian, The Times online, The Observer New Review and The Huffington Post UK. He is a member of the UK Speechwriters Guild and Fellow of the RSA.
 
Born and raised in East London, he is a Manchester United fan (obviously) and has torn cricketing allegiances – he fails the Tebbit test every time. He has previously dabbled in Bollywood dance choreography.

Phil Cooper
 

 
Our host and compere for the Friday night comedy, Phil is charming and amusing in equal measure. Phil’s surreal stories and laid-back style build on smartly written observations and he was Runner-up in the Bath Comedy Festival New Act Competition, 2015.

George Rigden
 

 
Having just been nominated as Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2017, George has excelled in a host of competitions. He made his Edinburgh debut in 2015 when he performed as part of the prestigious AAA Stand Up Late showcase at the Pleasance Courtyard for a full sell-out run. He is known for his dark musical Comedy, and received considerable critical acclaim for his set at the Leicester Comedy Festival Gala Preview Show 2016.

Liam Pickford

 

 

Liam started performing stand up in Manchester in June 2012. His unique style is a breath of fresh air to the circuit and Liam has crafted his own unique brand of stand up, mixing cleverly honed material and punchlines with excitingly unpredictable audience interaction. Liam was Runner-up in the Chortle student comedy awards 2015; BBC Radio 2 new comedian semi finalist 2012; and semi finalist in Just the tonic big value showcase 2016.

Alex Mahoney
 


 

A comedian from the Welsh Valleys who describes his comedy as simply: ‘short jokes’, Mahoney was a semi-finalist in So You Think You’re Funny and BBC Radio New Comedy Awards in 2016.

Sarah Breese is a mischievous ball of comedy nonsense. Since joining the circuit in 2015, Breese has been making waves on the Welsh standup scene and beyond. Funny, excitable and engaging, her comedy is a combination of sharp observations, skewed logic, and boundless enthusiasm.

Clint is a stand-up comedian and writer who regularly co-hosts the Rhod Gilbert show on BBC Radio Wales. Writing credits include Never Mind The Buzzcocks and The Apprentice: You’re Fired for BBC Two, plus The News Quiz and The Now Show for BBC Radio 4. Clint is also a TV warm-up artiste.

Sean has performed at Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, Cat Laughs Festival in Kilkenny, The Vodafone Comedy Festival in Dublin, The Rotterdam International Comedy Festival and several shows in Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Switzerland and Belgium. He’s also supported the likes of Ricky Gervais, Katherine Ryan and Doc Brown on tour, and made appearances on Russell Howard’s Stand-Up Central and Comedy Central’s Live At The Comedy Store.
